BMS: what you should actually ask a supplier

Five questions that separate in-house development from a bought-in board, and why it matters when working with inverters.

Question one: whose firmware

If a supplier buys the board from a third party, they cannot change the protection logic for your scenario and cannot release a quick update when an incompatibility surfaces. We write the firmware ourselves — that is the only reason we can promise project-level adaptation at all.

Question two: which inverters is it verified with

'Supports CAN' is not the same as compatibility. Ask for the specific inverter models the link has been verified with in the lab. For us that includes Deye, Growatt, GoodWe, SMA, INVT and others; we extend the list on partner request.

Question three: what happens in the cold

Charging LiFePO4 below zero is the main source of premature degradation. A competent BMS blocks charging below the threshold and reports it. Ask how exactly that protection is implemented, not just the range on the datasheet.
