
LiFePO4 vs lead-acid: when the swap actually pays off
A numbers-based comparison: weight, depth of discharge, cycle life, cost per cycle, and the cases where lead still wins.
The difference is not capacity, but usable capacity
A lead-acid battery is normally not discharged deeper than about half; going further collapses its life. A lithium iron phosphate battery can be used almost fully. So a 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 delivers roughly twice the usable energy of a lead battery with the same nameplate capacity — while weighing three times less.
Count cost per cycle, not purchase price
Our LiFePO4 models retain at least 70% capacity after 2,000 cycles, and storage systems start at 6,000 cycles. Even at a higher purchase price, the cost per stored kilowatt-hour over the service life comes out noticeably lower. For a customer fitting a battery into an RV for ten years, that is the decisive argument.
Where lead still holds up
In starter applications with rare deep discharge and in very low-budget projects where the battery is replaced every two years and nobody minds. An honest conversation about this with the end customer usually works better than a blanket 'lithium is always better'.
